Whelan dominates 100&200m, Cuddihy & Bergin tied for 400m topspot

Niamh Whelan (Ferrybank) tops both the 100m and 200m league tables for 2010. Ailis McSweeney (Leevale) pushed her close for the 100m title with 38 points to Whelan’s 41. However a busy and extremely successful season saw Whelan score points from 5 races, recording 4 wins. Kelly Proper (Ferrybank) was third on the 100m table with 22 points, beating Amy Foster (University of Ulster) by one point.

Whelan tops the 200m table on 38 points, next closest being team-mate Kelly Proper 12 points behind with a total of 26. Joanne Cuddihy’s third place finish in the Senior Championships was enough to secure third on the table as well, benefiting from double-points scoring at the biggest event on the Irish Athletics calendar.

Cuddihy (Kilkenny City Harriers) again took maximum advantage in winning the 400m at the National Championships to score 20 points and tie for first with Claire Bergin (Dundrum South Dublin) also on 20 points. Marian Andrews finishes the year in third with 16 points.
